Grappling Athlete Online Symposium: Second Edition

Assessing, Treating, and Preventing common injuries sustained by the grappling athlete brought to you by some of the industry's leading professionals.

The second edition will include the video series from the first edition released in June. We are adding new progressive lectures and demonstrations, along with new speakers and topics.

Video presentations will become available October 12th and will be available for viewing for a 30 day period.

Bo Sandoval

Bo Sandoval serves as the Director of Strength and Conditioning for the UFC Performance Institute. He leads the development and implementation of all strength and conditioning aspects within the UFC PI globally. Over the course of his career, he has designed and implemented comprehensive performance training programs for several NCAA Champions, National Champions, Paralympians, and Olympians.



Dr. Heather Linden, DPT

Heather Linden serves as the Director of Physical Therapy for the UFC Performance Institute (UFCPI). Heather’s previous title at the USOC was Senior High Performance Health Care Service Provider-Physical Therapist. Prior to this role, Heather worked at the United States Olympic Committee Sports Medicine Division. She worked at the Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center Clinic as part of the USOC’s multi-disciplinary sports medicine team.



Eitan Gelber, MA, ATC, CSCS, CMT, DNS-P

Eitan was a member of the Stanford Sports Medicine Program with their varsity sports for 15 years and led the department of athletic training for 2 years. In his last 8 years at Stanford Eitan worked as the head athletic trainer for the Stanford wrestling team.

Eitan has been part of the USA Judo Medical Committee and has been traveling internationally with the US team. Eitan is a member of USA Wrestling medical support staff.



Justin Flores

As a Coach:

Justin has been instrumental in the development of multiple MMA champions including Ronda Rousey, who he trained and cornered during her UFC championship run. Justin also trains and coaches Cat Zingano, Dominick Cruz, Jay Jay Wilson, Jessica Penne and many more.

Justin has led the USA Judo team in coaching duties all over the world and was named head coach of the 2017-2019 world teams.

As an Athlete:

As a representative of the US National judo team from 2002-2008, Justin was a 3x National champion, Pan American medalist and collected 20+ top 7 finishes on the world stage at international events.

Also an accomplished wrestler, Justin was a high school state champion in California and an all-American at division 1 powerhouse University of Nebraska cornhuskers.

Justin earned his Jiu-Jitsu black belt in under 4 years from the legendary Fabio Santos



Scott Anderson MA, ATC, FMSC, DNS-P J


Scott is a health and wellness leader and clinical expert currently serving as Chief Clinical Officer at SyncThink, a neuro-technology startup using proprietary eye-tracking technology to objectively identify common neurological conditions, including concussion. Scott spent ten years overseeing the largest intercollegiate sports medicine program in the US at Stanford University.



Jessica Ralph, BJJ Black Belt


Jessica has been training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for the past 15 years. She is a Black Belt under Pedro Sauer and one of the primary instructors at Studio 540 teaching BJJ and Yoga for BJJ. Jessica’s communication skills and mastery of the BJJ movement fundamentals make her a perfect fit for this Grappling Concepts - Movement Preparation workshop.



Dr. B.J. Anderson

Dr. B.J. Anderson presently serves as team physician for the NCAA Division III National Champions Augsburg University wrestling team. Since 1996 he has served as tournament physician for Freestyle wrestling at the USA Wrestling Jr. National tournament in Fargo, N.D. He is also the medical advisor for MN/USA Wrestling and a past member of the NFHS Sports Medicine Advisory Committee.

Dr. Anderson has performed multiple clinical studies on the use of antiviral medication in controlling and preventing outbreaks of Herpes Gladiatorum in wrestlers. He has also written multiple papers on using valacyclovir for Herpes Gladiatorum which presently serves as the landmark guideline on treating this infectious agent.

He presently works in primary care at Boynton Health Services through the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis



Mike Piekarski, PT, DPT, OCS

After turning professional as a Mixed Martial Artist, Mike earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy. He is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and is recognized as a Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist by the American Physical Therapy Association




Michael Rintala, D.C.

Dr. Rintala is an international instructor on Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS) for the Prague School of Rehabilitation. Dr. Rintala has been part of the Professional Golf Association (PGA) Tour Sports Medicine Team since 2005. He is also a treating doctor for the World Surf League (WSL), and part of the USA Surfing Performance Committee and a wide variety of other organizations.
